We have a small flock of poultry on the farm and they are happily laying tasty nutritious eggs! Along with a few varieties of chickens, we have a couple of duck breeds that are layers also. The guinea fowl aren't layers, but should start earning their keep by eating insects, including Japanese beetles, when things are more green than brown. Our one goose started as a trial run, and while she does not lay a lot of eggs, they are pretty big and have lovely flavour!

Eggs are sold at $5 per dozen, and can include a duck egg in with the varying browns of the chicken eggs if desired.

Our birds live in the barn and have a nicely fenced field in which they run around at various distances depending on the time of year. They really don't wander as far in the winter, but they do still go outside! The field is accessed from their stall, so they have the best of both worlds - outdoors with an indoor area for shelter, and the fence keeps out coyotes and other predators. When we are home most of the day and the weather is good, we open the fence to let them range more widely. The kids enjoy visiting them, and picking them up, and their stall is cleaned daily. Overall, they are pretty happy hens!

Have a look at some photos of them on our Facebook page!
